The papers consist of an appointment, 1780 Oct 15, for Alexander Reid, as sheriff of Amherst Co.; and a letter, 1781 Feb 19, Jefferson, Richmond, Va., to Nathanael Greene, sending blank power of impressment for horses for Greene's dragoons; and discussing a plan to be submitted to Baron von Steuben for assigning regular army officers to militia companies and sending the released militia officers and surplus line officers to Greene for permanent dismissal or other assignment. Also include a draft letter, 1809 Jul 1, from Jefferson, Monticello, to William Jenkings, Rockbridge, on a fair price for Natural Bridge and the surrounding acreage.
